Marcia Lane Feakes

WORTHINGTON – Marcia Lane Feakes, of Worthington and Lexington, MA, died at age 94 in her Worthington farmhouse on May 26, 2018.

Marcia was a true Valentine, born on February 14, 1924 to Sara M. and Robert P. Lane of Westfield, MA. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Frank Feakes; by her son, Robert D. Feakes and her daughters, Ann Feakes-Sanburg and Carolyn R. Feakes as well as her grandsons, Olaf C. Sanburg and Arne F. Sanburg. She was predeceased by her son Frank C. Feakes and her brother William Lane of Westfield, MA.

A graduate of St. Margaret’s School, Wellesley College and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Marcia pursued a life of education, travel, reading, politics and gardening. She was a strong supporter of women’s rights as an active member of the League of Women Voters in Lexington, MA. No one loved a lively political debate more than Marcia.

Her career in public health included research on malaria and tuberculosis. She worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority, Beth Israel Hospital and the Boston Red Cross. In Worthington, she was a trustee on the Library Board, a member of the Historical Society and a member of the Garden Club. She treasured her large perennial garden which blooms beautifully each spring.
