WESTFIELD-Margaret E. (Hero) Potter of Westfield passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Baystate Medical Center. She was born on February 11, 1930 in Hartford, CT. She graduated from Weaver High School Class of 1949. Margaret was a pioneer in Recreation Therapy in the Nursing Home setting. She maintained voluntary certification with Mass Recreation and Park Assoc. and Mass Assoc. of Activity Professionals (M.A.A.P.). She retired in 1993 after 25 years of service at Heritage Hall Nursing Homes in Agawam. Margaret was an active member and Deacon of U.C.C. Second Congregational Church in Westfield and a member of its Highland Group. She was an officer in the Vasa Order of America Brage Iduna Lodge #9 of Springfield, MA. She was also a volunteer at Grandmother’s Garden and the Dewey House. Her first husband Kenneth J. Reel died in 1972 and her second husband Leo J. Cantin died in 1993 and her third husband James Potter died in 2012. She leaves daughters, Kathy M. Riddle and her husband Bob of West Springfield and Wendy J. Pucci of Brooklyn, CT; one stepson, Kenneth E. Potter of CA, two stepdaughters, Marcia A. Potter and Marylin J. Potter of Westfield; six grandchildren and four nieces, and extended family. She was predeceased by her son Eric Reel in 2010 and her two sisters, Biergit and Lucille. The funeral will be held on Monday, August 17 at 1p.m at the U.C.C. Second Congregational Church, 487 Western Ave., Westfield, MA 01085 Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St, Westfield, MA.
