WEST SPRINGFIELD – Mark E. Remaly, 70, entered into eternal rest July 11, 2020 at Bear Mountain Health Care in West Springfield, MA. He was born April 10, 1950 in Northampton, MA to parents Arnold and Maxine Remaly. He leaves his wife, Alice Flyte of Westfield, MA; two brothers, Leonard S. Remaly and his wife Michelene of Wilbraham, MA, and Peter C. Remaly and his wife Joan in CT, and nieces and nephews.
After attending Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA, Mark graduated from Boston College. He worked in building maintenance positions at several Boston locations. He retired from the Facilities Maintenance Operations Center at Harvard University.
Mark and Alice were familiar faces at area craft fairs. Mark would cane chairs (a craft he learned at Perkins School), while Alice wove baskets. The couple opened their shop, The Seat Weaver on Elm Street in Westfield, offering chair caning and repair, craft classes, and a gallery for local artisans to sell their wares. Mark’s good humor and infectious laugh always put everyone at ease. He enjoyed exercising at the YMCA, bicycling, and attending car shows with friends.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Mark’s name may be made to the Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library, 175 N. Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472.
