Martin “Marty” Charles Madrid

WESTFIELD – Martin “Marty” Charles Madrid, 64, a lifelong resident of Westfield, MA passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, MA.

Marty was born on June 15, 1958, in Westfield, MA to the late Arthur P. Madrid and Sophie Madrid (Marcyoniak).

Staff Sergeant Madrid proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1975 – 1986 as a communications technician, drill sergeant, and instructor. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and Achievement Medal. Marty enjoyed playing guitar and while stationed in Germany he formed a band with his service members.

Marty had worked as a machinist and mechanical engineer for several machine shops in the Westfield area.

He was a member and former commander of American Legion Post #124 in Westfield, MA. He was also a member of La Société des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux – commonly known as the Forty and Eight – which is involved in several charitable causes from child welfare, nurse training, and youth sports.

Marty was an avid collector of American Bald Eagles, wolves, and dreamcatchers.

Marty is predeceased by his father Arthur P. Madrid and mother Sophie Madrid (Marcyoniak) who were both veterans and met while in service to their country.

He is survived by his wife Catherine (Thistle) Madrid of Westfield, MA, his children: Carey Madrid Nitch, Brenda Madrid Sorensen, Tony Isaacs, Christopher Isaacs, Duane Madrid, Rachel Brunelle, Lisa Madrid O’Riley, Samantha Caldwell Gomez, and Eric Madrid, his brothers: Arthur Madrid, Ronnie Madrid, and John Madrid along with many other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, from 10:30 AM – 12 NOON at Westfield Funeral Home, 4 Princeton St., Westfield, MA 01085. The funeral service begins at 12 NOON at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA
