WESTFIELD – The family of Mary Anne Conti of Westfield, MA is saddened to announce her passing on January 19, 2023 at the age of 67 following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. Mary, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothea (Courtney) Conti, grew up in Westfield, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1973. Following in the footsteps of her mother, Mary received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Anselm College as well as a Master of Science in Nursing from Boston College. After college, Mary moved to Weymouth, MA where she lived until the onset of her illness, returning to live in Westfield with her sister and brother-in-law.
Mary’s kind and caring nature was well-suited for nursing. For 42 years, she delivered compassionate care to all of her patients and their families in the ICU department at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, MA until her retirement in June of 2020. Mary had the utmost respect for her colleagues, especially for all that worked during the height of the Covid pandemic. She was proud to be part of “The Carney Family” and cherished the friendships she made there.
Mary was a devoted and loving daughter, spending years caring for her parents. She was happy to have the knowledge and skill set to provide them with excellent care. Mary and her father could often be found watching sports together. She was a passionate Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins fan. Lively banter would ensue whenever the Sox played the Yankees as that was her dad’s favorite team. Mary enjoyed listening to ‘sports talk’ radio and was very in tune with current events and the political scene. Summer vacations at Hampton Beach and any time spent with her four nephews, brought her great joy. Recently she enjoyed outings with her sister, visits with her Carney Hospital friends and every meal prepared for her by her brother-in-law.
Mary will lovingly be remembered by her sister, Joanne Fouche and her husband Timothy of Westfield, whose unwavering support guided Mary along her cancer journey. Her nephews whom she loved dearly, Timothy (Linda) Fouche of West Roxbury, MA, Nicholas Fouche of Springfield, MA, Alec (Kelly) Fouche of Stratford, CT and Evan Fouche of Brooklyn, NY.
