WESTFIELD – Mary Lafreniere, 99, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born March 18, 1921, in Westfield to the late Domenico and Maria (Caliano) Gianchetti. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph E. of 61 years, daughter-in-law Carol Lafreniere, her brothers Joseph and Christopher Gianchetti, and her sisters Angelina Root, Rachael Galcenski, and Rose Pioretta. Mary is survived by her four children and their spouses: Earl and Candace Lafreniere of Westfield, Suzanne and Michael Pescitelli of Bradenton, Florida, Annette and James Lobban of Tolland, Mass. and Valerie and David Krupa of Ft. Pierce, Florida. In addition, she leaves (14) grandchildren and (29) great grandchildren plus “Aunt Mary’s” many nieces and nephews. Mary had three passions in life: family, food and living life to the fullest.
She enjoyed a close relationship with her family. She was famous for her Italian cooking especially meatballs and sauce. Also, she traveled throughout her life including a trip to Italy at 90 years old. Mary became known as the “Cross Lady” by making thousands of crocheted crosses that have found their way with missions around the world along with various cancer treatment centers.
A memorial mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church located at 127 Holyoke Road Westfield, MA 01085.
