SOUTHWICK – The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School Committee this week selected a consultant for its superintendent search committee.
Superintendent John Barry announced plans to retire at the end of the school year and the Committee unanimously chose to work with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees for the search.
The Committee discussed hiring a national consulting firm, such as the one Longmeadow is using. The cost of MASC is about $10,000, versus about $30,000 for the national firm.
“My feeling is you’re going to end up with the same applicants,” said Committee Chairman James Vincent.
Committee member Jean McGivney-Burelle agreed.
“It sounds like it’s going to take time and cost money,” she said of the national firm.
Committee member Ted Locke said he would rather use MASC and get their search started because several area districts, including Longmeadow and Westfield, are also searching for superintendents.
“The sooner we get our name out there, the better,” said Locke.
