SHEFFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has once again set off on a canoe trip across the state to draw attention to the beauty of its rivers and the need to keep them clean.
The Berkshire Eagle reports 69-year-old Dennis “Denny” Alsop launched from the banks of the Housatonic River in Sheffield on Monday morning.
The trip will span from western Massachusetts to Boston and include 11 rivers, with breaks along the way to carry the vessel to new waters.
It’s the same route Alsop followed 28 years ago when he embarked on the same journey.
The Stockbridge conservationist hopes this trip will show evidence of the progress the state and various nonprofits have made to clean up waterways.
He expects to complete the trip in 30 days.
