St. Mary’s freshman Alex Sheltra used his bat for just the second time to lift the Saints’ baseball team to a big come-from-behind win over Commerce, 7-4, yesterday.
Shelta, in just his second at-bat as a varsity player, hit a bases-loaded, two-run double to give St. Mary’s a 6-4 lead in the seventh inning. Matt Plasse tacked on an insurance run, scoring on a passed ball.
Noah Parker, who went 3-for-4, tied the game with a two-run double.
Joe Lubanski (1 K) provided two innings of no-hit ball in relief for St. Mary’s (8-6).
Westfield Voc-Tech 10, Smith Voke 1
Eddie Bartis went 4-for-5 with 2 runs and 4 RBIs, and Chris Oberther batted 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Voc-Tech offense. Tigers’ pitcher Walter Hallack struck out six batters through six innings. He walked just one.
