Southwick approves Bike Nights

The Board of Selectman last night gave its stamp of approval for four Bike Nights at the Brew Too.
The events will take place every Tuesday in June from 6-9 p.m. and feature live music, as well as outdoor vendors.
Owner Patricia Tangredi and manager Thomas Sacco requested that the board give them permission to allow patrons outside, with alcohol, and originally planned the events for 6-10 p.m. Tuesdays throughout the summer.
Board Chairman Fred Arnold said he had a few concerns with the original request.
“It’s really the noise and time, and motorcycles are not quiet,” said Arnold of his concerns.
Tangredi said she thought the time was reasonable considering the restaurant is open later than 10 p.m.
“It’s a Tuesday,” said Arnold. “It’s a work night and people have to get up for work. I’m concerned about the neighbors.”
Sacco said the music would be completely indoors and because there is no lighting outside in the grass behind the building, the vendors would be done when the sun went down.
Tangredi said the area for vendors would be fenced off so patrons were not roaming the entire property. When asked by Arnold if anyone would be on the deck, she said there would be diners.
“We have people there seven nights a week on the deck,” said Tangredi.
Police Lt. David A. Ricardi said he checked the restaurant for incidents going back two years and found none.
“There were a couple of accidents, but they just happened to be in that area,” Ricardi said.
The board stressed to Tangredi that they supported her efforts to try to bring something new to town, and commended her for donating proceeds of the event to Shriners.
“I have nothing against what you’re trying to do – I think it’s a great idea,” said Arnold.
Selectman Russell Fox suggested allowing the event on a trial basis of one month and limiting the event to 9 p.m.
“The concern is noise,” said Fox. “I’m pro-business and I want you to succeed.”
The board members agreed they would check with Ricardi at the end of June and if there were no incidents or reported complaints, the event could continue.
Sacco said Bike Night is a family friendly event open to the public.
