The Westfield High School baseball team hit another bump in the road Saturday morning.
Westfield, whose upperclassmen enjoyed prom night Friday, suffered a bit of a letdown against Minnechaug at Jachym Field. The Falcons soared past the hometown Bombers, 9-1.
Minnechaug seized a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Westfield chopped the lead in half with a run in the fourth, but the Falcons tacked on seven runs in the sixth to pull away. The Bombers committed five errors.
It was on the third loss of the season for Westfield, who recently handed East Longmeadow its first loss of 2012. The Bombers (12-3) followed up that monumental win with a 2-1 loss to Holyoke before bouncing back against West Springfield, 9-3.
Westfield will attempt to regroup in time for a revenge game against Amherst Tuesday at Bullens Field at 6:30 p.m. The Hurricanes won the previous meeting between the two teams earlier this season.
