Melanie Curran

WESTFIELD – Melanie Curran, 98, passed away peacefully Monday, January 28th at Armbrook Village. Melanie was born September 21, 1920 in Southwick to the late Alexander and Valeria (Osewska) Kaczman. She was a life-long resident of Southwick and Blandford. At the age of 22, Melanie joined the WAVES in 1942 and was an Aviation Machinist Mate Second Class. Melanie worked for Southwick Public Schools as a teachers’ assistant before she retired in 1984. She was a naturalist who enjoyed nature, bird watching, and tending to her gardens. She spent some of her time quilting, sewing and being a girl scout leader. But most of all, she was proud of her family and spending time with them. Melanie is survived by her daughters; Joanne Clapp and her husband Roger of Conway, Susan Curran and her husband Errol Hoberman of Navarre, FL, Valerie DePina and her husband George of Woronoco, and Lorraine Brady and her husband Gerald of Blandford. She was the cherished grandmother to Kevin, Kenneth, Jeremiah, Jason, and great grandmother to Alexander, Kaitlyn, Ronan, Cody and Fallyn. She was predeceased by her four brothers and three sisters. Westfield Funeral Home and Cremation has been entrusted with the arrangements. The services for Melanie will be private for the family.
