SOUTHWICK/GRANVILLE – Southwick and Granville are hosting events this weekend in recognition of Memorial Day.
On Sunday, the town of Granville will be having a Memorial Day service at the Granville Federated Church at Noon. After the service concludes, everyone in attendance will cross to the town green where a wreath will be placed on the memorial stone. The event will then end with a three-gun salute.
Just one day later, on Memorial Day, Southwick will have their annual Memorial Day parade. The lineup for the parade is at 9:30 at the Southwick Plaza on College Highway with the parade set to begin at 10 a.m.
All veteran’s organizations in town will be represented in the parade, including both the Southwick Police and Fire Associations. The cub scouts, boy scouts, and girl scouts will be marching along with the Southwick Regional School band.
Southwick American Legion Post 338 hosts the parade and all individuals and organizations are free to join the march.
“All citizens are welcomed and encouraged to parade with us,” said Russ Pike of Post 338.
The parade will go south on College Highway, and then stop at the town green at the First Congregational Church, where the veterans monument is, and a ceremony will then be conducted at that monument. Following that, the parade will continue south on College Highway and end at the New Cemetery.
If there is rain or bad weather the ceremonies will be moved to the Southwick Town Hall.
