WESTFIELD – Mercedes J. (St. Jacques) Schmidt, 86, died Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024 in Baystate Medical Center. She was born in Holyoke on March 9th, 1937 to the late Louis and Jeannette St. Jacques. She grew up in South Hadley and attended local schools. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She leaves her husband of 51 years Almon E. Schmidt, her sons James Paroline and his wife Denise of Randolph VT and Dennis Paroline of Chicopee, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves her siblings, Peter St. Jacques and his wife Lea, Paul St. Jacques and his wife Barbara, Muriel Leone, Louise Carlisle and Jeannette Ensor.
She was predeceased by her grandchildren Zachary Paroline and Joshua Lemanski.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday January 9th at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield from 5-7. Her funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 10th, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Firtionadams.com
