Westfield – Michael Anthony Minalga, 74, (1942 – 2017) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Mike was born December 4, 1942 in Hartford, CT to the late Brian A. and Margaret W. (Brown) Minalga. Mike worked for Sweet Life Foods for many years before he retired. Mike’s passion was his family, tending to his yard and house. He enjoyed sailing, the ocean, Maine and Rhode Island. He was an avid New England Patriots fan. He volunteered at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home, Open Pantry Soup Kitchen in Westfield, youth baseball and basketball programs. Mike was dedicated in supporting St. Mary’s School Booster Club and a huge fan of St. Mary’s Athletics.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Marie Minalga (Pias) of Westfield. He was the beloved father to Brian Minalga and his wife Shari of West Granby, CT, Tina Berghoff and her husband William of Easthampton, and Anthony Minalga and his wife K.C. of Enfield, CT. He was the cherished grandpa to Christopher, Justin, Aubrey, Sonya, Jeremy, Lydia, Harper and Sadie. He was the caring brother to Patricia Walbam and her husband Carl.
There will be a Memorial Mass Thursday, April 20th at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield, MA 01085. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mike’s name to Westfield Soup Kitchen, 101 Meadow Street, Westfield, MA 01085. Westfield Funeral Home and Cremation has been entrusted with these arrangements.
