WESTFIELD – Mildred E. (Bennett) Buckland, 98, of Westfield died Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Westfield. She was born on May 23, 1915 in Browington, VT, daughter of the late Delmar H. and Edith A. Kellogg Bennett.
Mildred graduated from Westfield High School in 1933 and was employed as a housemother at Westfield State College. She also worked as a Nurses Aide at Noble Hospital, a waitress at Tekoa Country Club and as a welder at Columbia Mfg. during WWII. Mildred enjoyed gardening square dancing, cooking, baking and taking care of people.
She leaves her husband, Harvey S. Buckland; two sons, Gary W. Sell of Orange, CT and Glen E. Sell of Westfield and a daughter, Mary Moore of Springfield, VT.; a sister, Vivien G. Butler of Westfield; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Guy H. Sell and by her first husband, Elliot Janellier and her second husband, Walter Sell and two brothers, Earl and Art Bennett.
The funeral will be Tuesday, September 3rd at 11:30 a.m. from Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church at 12:30 p.m. with burial to follow in the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 2:00 p.m. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
