WESTFIELD – The 2018 Miss Western Mass and Miss Pioneer Valley pageant is set to take place Nov. 18 at Westfield State University and an orientation for interested contestants will occur on Sept. 24 from Noon until 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Chicopee.
According to Miss Western Mass Executive Director Kimberly Supernaw, in order to be a contestant for the pageant and attend the orientation, interested women have to be between the ages of 17 and 24. They must also live, work, or attend school in Western Massachusetts.
Although there isn’t an entry fee to become a contestant in the pageant, participants must raise a minimum of $100 for the Children’s Miracle Network, which is the national platform for Miss America.
The different phases of the pageant include a private interview, talent, evening wear, lifestyle and fitness, and on-stage question.
At the orientation on Sept. 24, if interested individuals commit to competing, they would then attend rehearsals for the next six weeks at the Elks Lodge in Chicopee.
Supernaw, who is a former member of Miss Western Massachusetts, sees the benefit in competing and hopes that young women in the local area will participate.
“We would love to get more women from the five-college area involved and really let them know what it’s about,” said Supernaw. “It’s really done amazing things for my life.”
