BECKET – We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nancy Lee Frisbie, a resident of Becket since 1979, in the early morning hours of July 9th at Lee Health Care. Nancy was born in Westfield, MA on June 2, 1949 to Gloria (Hinish) and William E. Dewhurst. She grew up in Southwick, MA and attended public schools there, graduating in 1967. She later enhanced her education by taking a variety of courses at Westfield State University over the course of several years. Nancy met her future husband, Stuart, in June of 1969 after she called him in response to an ad he had placed for lawn-mowing services. Nancy and Stuart were married in Southwick on December 19, 1970. Nancy began her working career as a bookkeeper of Dewhurst Water Systems Installations, a business owned by her grandfather, Howard Dewhurst, and operated by her father. From November, 1971 until 1974, she joined Stuart at various Marine Corps bases around the country, during which period her children, Nathan and Jessica, were born. After Nancy and her family returned to the Westfield area in late 1974, she began a long and fulfilling career in the publishing industry. She was the production manager for several publications in the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires, including The Wallace Pennysaver, The Westfield Evening News, the Country Journal, The Kids’ Onion, Childsplay, the Berkshire Pennysaver and Golden Ages for which she also served as an associate publisher. In the mid 1980s, Nancy took time off from the publishing field to manage the KFC in Lee for a couple of years. From the early 1980s to the early 2000s, Nancy also owned and operated Dewhurst Frisbie Graphics.
Nancy ended her career as a sales representative for The Berkshire Record, retiring in 2017. She also found time to serve her community in a number of different ways as a member and President/Chairperson of the Greater Lee Chamber of Commerce, the Becket Cultural Council, the Becket Zoning Board of Appeals and the Southern Berkshire Solid Waste Management District. Nancy especially cherished being a member of the First Congregational Church of Becket, where she was also a deacon and member of the Ladies’ Guild. She donated her skills as a graphic artist to produce the weekly Sunday church programs for many years. Also a talented artist, Nancy delighted many with her spur-of-the-moment drawings and sketches, many of which had humorous overtones. She also manifested her creativity by mastering a variety of crafts over the years. She also solved Rubik’s Cube (all sides) in just a couple of hours. Nancy’s kindness, graciousness and caring nature will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Stuart, son Nathan, daughter and son-in-law Jessica & Fabrizio Perotti and her four granddaughters who brought immeasurable enjoyment into her life Melody, Kendra, Emmalyn and Brianna Frisbie. Nancy was predeceased by her parents Gloria & William Dewhurst.
We would especially like to thank all of those who were involved in her care and treatment over the past 3 & 1/2 years at Hillcrest Center, Two South at BMC and Lee Health Care. Nancy will be laid to rest in her beloved Becket at a graveside ceremony in North Becket Cemetery at 10 AM Tuesday, July 14th. Donations in Nancy’s memory may be sent to either the First Congregational Church of Becket, PO Box 327 Becket, MA 01223, or to the Becket Federated Church, PO Box 306, Becket, MA 01223.
