
WESTFIELD – Nicholas A. Riga of Westfield, MA died on October 21st, 2025. Nick was born in Westfield on October 30th, 1936, the son of the late Nicholas and Lucy (Cennamo) Riga and first grandchild of Rosina (Deluca) and Luciano Cennamo. He passed after a courageous Battle with Heart Disease.
A lifelong resident of Westfield and a communicant of Saint Mary’s church, Nick was educated in the Westfield school system where he was a three-sport athlete.
He continued his education at American International College and Western New England College earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was a co-captain of the 1958 football team at A.I.C.
Nick worked as an insurance broker for over 45 years.
He served as Chairman of the Westfield Fire and Westfield License Commissions and was a member of the Police and Fire Department building committees during the tenure of Mayor John Palczynski. He also served on the building committee of the Interfaith Chapel at Westfield State University, and with a group of civic leaders helped to found the Boys & Girls Club.
Nick loved sports and was an avid golfer and longtime member of Springfield Country Club. He was also a member of numerous civic, business, and professional organizations.
Nick is survived by his loving spouse of 67 years, Irene (Cunningham) Riga; daughter, Catherine (Riga) Wright and her husband George of San Bruno, CA; and son, Christopher Riga (Col. USASF Ret) of Westfield. He leaves five beloved grandchildren: Lauren and Nicholas Wright (Claire) Christopher, Anthony and Grace Riga; two sisters, Rosemarie Bonyeau, of Southwick, Loretta and her husband Richard Patrick, of Westfield. Several nieces and nephews.
