Norman H. Smith, II

WESTFIELD – Norman H. Smith, II of Westfield passed peacefully surrounded by family at Baystate Medical Center on December 5th, 2024. Norm was born in Springfield on August 15th, 1944, to the late Norman H. and Helen (Borowik) Smith. He graduated in 1962 from Springfield Technical High School where he was on the crew team and wrestled before attending Westfield State College. Norm was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and served as an Air Traffic Controller at Clark AFB in the Philippines.

Norm married the love of his life Rebecca (Wyatt) Smith on November 22nd, 1965. He was an active Member of American Legion Post 124, Camp Jahn, Vietnam Veterans’ Association Slovak Hall, and an active communicant at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Westfield. He loved playing Pitch and Pinochle, going boating, and spending time with his dogs, Chloe and Zoey. Norm also enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their activities. He was involved in the Special Olympics with his granddaughter Morgan. Norm loved spending his summers at the family camp in Litchfield, Maine. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was the glue of the family. He was a humble and loving man who checked on everyone. He was nicknamed “fun grandpa” because of how amazing he was with his great grandchildren. He always had “pocket candy” for them which they loved.

Norm leaves behind his children Norman H. Smith, III and his life partner Mary Brennan, Alan Smith and his wife Ana Smith, Pamela Hitchcock and her husband Steven Hitchcock. His grandchildren Shaun Hitchcock (deceased), Kayla Hitchcock, Justin Hitchcock, Morgan Smith, Alec Smith, Sean and Tara Santos; and great-grandchildren Koby Coffey, Anabelle Roman, Silas Hitchcock, Mariana Roman, Emery Hitchcock. He also leaves his siblings Richard Smith, Barbara Bendtson, and Francis Haley and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be on Monday, December 16th from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Services, 76 Broad Street, Westfield.  The Funeral Mass for Norm will be held following the calling hours at 12:30 p.m. in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Holyoke Road, Westfield. The burial will be following the Funeral Mass with full Military Honors at 2 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Agawam.
