Dave Pierce, of the Friends of the Keystone Arches, recently delighted a group of visiting professionals from the National Park Service, with a tour of the 1841 Keystone Arch Bridges in Chester. Dave spoke about the history, number of firsts, stunning beauty and the need to preserve these treasures. He commented that, although it took only two and a half years to build these magnificent bridges, the funds to preserve them has been held up and stuck in a quagmire for over 16 years. Dave still holds out hope that enough community members and Massachusetts citizens will contact their legislators and highway reps in time. The message to state and federal legislators should be that, the Keystone Arch Bridges restoration project is important to you, your community and your state. Let them know that we need their help in getting this project moving.
Call or email Jeffrey Mullan, Secretary of Transportation, and, Frank DePaola, Highway Administrator, to request their assistance in prioritizing the re-authorization of federal funds for the Keystone Arch Bridges Restoration project . Ask them to take all necessary all steps for the advertising of this project for construction.
