WESTFIELD—The Westfield Fire Department tentatively added a new firefighter-paramedic to their department yesterday.
The Westfield Fire Commission made a conditional offer of employment to Kyle Morrissey during their meeting at City Hall yesterday. The offer came following an interview process that initially saw three candidates vying for one vacant position on the department, though one had submitted a letter prior to the meeting removing themselves from contention.
Morrissey said that the position was “always a dream” for him.
“I’m just really excited, very humbled to be offered the appointment,” Morrissey said. “I can’t wait to start.”
Morrissey interviewed for the vacant position along with paramedic Sarah Leavy.
Morrissey himself is also a paramedic, and has been one for the past three months working in Springfield as a paramedic. He also has served on the Russell Fire Department as a call firefighter-EMT since 2011, and he recently received his bachelors of paramedicine from the University of New Haven.
Morrissey must now pass medical and psychological screenings, a hearing test and the Massachusetts Physical Abilities Test in order for the conditional offer to become honored.
