Paul E. Flaherty, 79, passed away after a short illness on September 19, 2018. Paul was born in Boston, MA in 1939, the only child of Edmund Bartholomew Flaherty and Margaret Bernice (Moore) Flaherty. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Business Management in 1961. He was a member of the Marine Reserve. Paul was selected for the General Electric Management Training Program and worked many years for GE, and later worked at Raytheon and Emhart Corporation (Farmington, CT) in various accounting and management roles.
Paul had a lifelong interest in golf and became certified as a PGA clubmaker, making and repairing clubs for various golf stores, his latest being Edwin Watts Golf Store in Palm Harbor, FL. This relationship gave him the chance to meet and do club repairs for many of the pros who played at Innsbrook Golf Club.
He married Carol Davis in 1960 and they have four children: David Ashton (married to Liz) of Westfield, MA; Lauren Marie (married to Norine) of Alachua, FL; Paul Andrew of West Springfield, MA; and Thomas Michael of Hudson, FL. They have three grandchildren: Liam Flaherty, Ethan Flaherty, and Thomas Houser. He loved hearing about the education and sports accomplishments, and the outdoor scouting adventures, of his grandchildren.
At Paul’s request, a gathering of family and friends will be held in the coming weeks. Paul was a great believer in encouraging youngsters to learn and play golf, and in recent years he donated over 100 sets of clubs to this group.
