Arthur Pinell
SOUTHWICK – Board of Selectmen Chairman Arthur Pinell spoke briefly this week about his time on the board during his last regular meeting as a selectman.
Pinell chose not to seek re-election after nine years as a selectman.
“This is something I’ll always cherish,” Pinell said. “I met wonderful people in town and it has been a great experience.”
Pinell said he would be using his newfound free time wisely.
“I will be working on the list my wife has generated now that I have time,” he joked.
Town employee Victoria Hickey said she was “sad to see Art go” and spoke about “the level of respect and care” he has for residents and finding a resolution to town issues.
“I hope you will return to service in another capacity soon,” said Hickey.
Pinell announced in early March that he would not run again.
“When I first got involved in the selectmen I didn’t think it was a great idea to stay forever,” he said. “Change isn’t a bad thing.”
Pinell said he will miss the fast pace of the board.
“Southwick is a highly active community,” said Pinell. “From the schools to Whalley Park, the DPW facility, College Highway project – it takes a lot of time and there is always something going on.”
While Pinell said he will miss that, he is looking forward to spending time with family and work, and some “peace and quiet.” He said he will also miss the people.
“I’ve been glad to give my time and be able to meet so many people in the community,” he said.
