SOUTHWICK – The Town of Southwick Planning Board held a public hearing in the Land Use Hearing room of the town hall on Tuesday night.
Stephen Phillips, the President of Nitor, was the applicant who requested a special permit on the property of 5 Whalley Way at the industrial park.
Phillips was specifically requesting to add a retail store to his business which would provide the sales of firearms, ammos, and accessories. After the Planning Board closed the public hearing, they decided to accept the application that Phillips requested.
The retail store would be a total of 675 square feet and the same entrance would be used as the main entrance for the company.
As Nitor provides marking and engraving on firearms and other accessories, A-10 Arms & Ammo will be the company name of the retail store.
Phillips explained exactly why he made the request for a retail store to have firearms and accessories.
“It’s a product that a lot of people want so it’s an easy sell,” said Phillips.
Adding the retail store allows Phillip’s corporation to grow. “It’s proved itself it’s going to be a profitable company so that’s why I spun it off of Nitor, calling it A-10 Arms & Ammo,” said Phillips.
Nitor and A-10 Arms & Ammo adds a dynamic that not many other competitors have.
The engraving process is a very important one as Nitor not only makes marks on firearms but with aerospace as well as medical instruments.
Another request that Phillips had was to put an industrial park sign for the several businesses that are present there.
“We want a real directory sign,” said Phillips.
