10:21 a.m.: Motor vehicle violation and arrest, Main Street and Taylor Avenue. Police stopped a vehicle that did not have a valid inspection sticker, and upon investigating found that Jonathan B. Burke, 28, of Westfield, had a warrant out for his arrest, in addition to a revoked driver’s license. Police arrested Burke and charged him with the warrant, operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked and no inspection/sticker.

12:45 p.m.: Traffic complaint and arrest, Union Street. Police received a call from a motorist who said that they found a driver all over the roadway. Additionally, the driver was reportedly falling asleep at red lights. Police were eventually able to find the vehicle and the driver. Police also reported that the wife of the driver was allegedly following the driver in a separate vehicle, though they are unsure why. Police stopped the driver, Jake A. Squires, 39, of Huntington, and searched him. They found five bags of heroin on him, which prompted an arrest. Squires was charged with possession of class A drug, negligent operation of a vehicle, marked lanes violation and a red light violation.

3:45 p.m.: Motor vehicle accident and arrest, Prospect Street. Police were informed of an accident involving a 2013 Ford Escape that crashed into another vehicle in a driveway. The accident was witnessed by an off-duty officer and reported to Westfield Police. The off-duty officer proceeded to follow the vehicle involved in the accident and said that the driver was reportedly “all over the roadway.” The driver eventually stopped in front of JJ’s Variety Store and questioned. While there, police reported that the driver, Elizabeth L. Darling, 34, of Westfield, was in possession of several medications without a prescription, and thus she would be arrested. Darling was charged with leaving the scene of property damage, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, two counts of possession of a class A substance (heroin and morphine), three counts of possession of a class E substance (Flexiril, Klonopin and Zofran) and two counts of possession of a class B substance (amphetamine and oxycodone). The Westfield News reported on this Aug. 24.
