1:28 a.m.: Motor vehicle violation and arrest, North Elm Street. Police reported that they initially stopped a vehicle after it was allegedly speeding. According to the log, following the stop police arrested the operator, Joseph T. Bassett, 33, of Westfield, and charged him with unlicensed operation of motor vehicle, possession of open container of alcohol and speeding in violation of special regulation.

4:15 p.m.: Larceny, Broad Street. Police received a report from a resident who reported a person had allegedly stolen their medication. Police were unable to confirm information on a suspect at the time of the report.

4:51 p.m.: Accident, Main Street. Police received a report of a two-vehicle accident. A 2007 Jeep Compass and a 2009 Mercury Mariner were involved. No injuries were reported and no tow trucks requested.

8:02 p.m.: Disturbance and arrest, Franklin Street. Police received a report from a person who claimed that their neighbor was “out of control and causing a disturbance,” according to the log. Police reported that the issue allegedly stemmed from an argument allegedly between the person the complaint was made against and their child. The child was reportedly consoled by the neighbor, according to police, and the disturbance allegedly arose from this. Police arrested Julia Ellen Tower, 58, of Westfield, on a charge of disorderly conduct.

8:29 p.m.: Shoplifting, Walmart Springfield Road. Police received a report that two females had allegedly “attempted to shoplift two carts of items,” according to the log, and police were requested. The two alleged suspects were also reported to have been at the location in the morning and were reportedly able to “get away with merchandise” then. They reportedly left in a vehicle and a license plate number was given to police. Police reported that about $800 worth of items in the two alleged incidents was reported missing and the incident is currently under investigation. No arrests made at the time of the report.

11:17 p.m.: Disturbance, Franklin Street. Police received a call related to a disturbance at the address listed above at 8:02 p.m. According to the log, Tower called the police. Police reported that an ambulance was initially called according to the log, but police then placed Tower in protective custody. She was previously released from Westfield Police custody after reportedly paying a clerk’s fee, according to police.
