Major crime and incident report

9:11 a.m.: Identity fraud, walk-in. Police received a report from a couple who told them that credit card accounts were opened with their information but not with their okay. Police said that there was no loss to the alleged victims, but there were also no arrests at the time of the report.

9:17 a.m.: Motor vehicle accident, College Highway and Valley Road, Southampton. Westfield Police and Fire departments responded to a two-car accident at the intersection that was originally called into them by the town of Southampton. The accident was originally responded to by Southampton and involved three patients, including a 15-month-old child. One of the patients, a 79-year-old, would later die from injuries.

10:13 a.m.: Breaking and entering, walk-in. Police received a report from a walk-in that the door was kicked in at a vacant house, but no property was reported missing.

10:47 a.m.: Fraud, Westfield Bank. The bank reported to police that a customer attempted to pass a counterfeit check. There were no arrests at the time of the report.

1:45 p.m.: Motor vehicle accident, Park Square. Police witnessed a tractor trailer strike a ballister and knock it over on the green. Police were able to stop the tractor trailer on Court Street and Department of Public Works responded to fix the ballister.

3:24 p.m.: Motor vehicle accident, Union Avenue. A two-car accident involving a 2013 Honda Accord and a 2009 Kia Spectra was reported to police that resulted in minor damage. However, prior to police arriving to the accident, witnesses reported that the operator of one of the vehicles, after pulling into a nearby parking lot, ran from the scene and the vehicle. Police had a description and a name, but did not have an arrest at the time of the report.

5:15 p.m.: Motor vehicle accident, Southampton Road. Police reported a minor accident involving a 2000 Dodge Caravan and a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. No tow was needed and no injuries were reported.
