Major crime and incident report
Tuesday, May 19, 2015
1:56 a.m.:
suspicious activity, Chestnut Street, woman reports being followed by a man from West Springfield, officer located the man and identified the man who states that it was a case of mistaken identity, officer reports man’s vehicle was unregistered, vehicle towed;
2:46 a.m.: unarmed robbery, arrest, Orange Street, two women report that a man grabbed cash out of one woman’s hand and fled scene, women provided description of man and his clothing, officer reports man located on Mechanic Street, another officer transported the woman to the location where the man had been detained and identified him as the suspect, Rudene Westbrook, 35, of no known address, Westfield, arrested and charged with unarmed robbery;
10:22 a.m.: larceny, 63 West School St., citizen came to station to report that the registration plate, which was secured with lock washers and nuts, was removed from his motorcycle, officer reports information taken, the registration plate was the third stolen from that neighborhood during the past two weeks;
11:49 a.m.: larceny, Shannon Lane, citizen came to station to report the theft of a Troy-Bilt rider mower valued at $1,500, citizen had found a small-engine repair company online which listed its address as 14 Maple St., Westfield, company was suppose to return the mower on May 13 but had failed to do so, citizen called number of the company and left several messages, none of which were returned, officer reports there is no 14 Maple St., in the city nor is a small-engine repair company located on Maple Street, incident remains under investigation;
12:46 p.m.: identity fraud, Colony Circle , citizen reports that his identity was used to file an income tax return, citizen contacted the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) which requested that the citizen contact the Police Department to document the false filing, services rendered;
3:02 p.m.: tractor-truck accident, Elm Street, Westfield Park Square Green, officer working a road detail reports tractor-trailer unit rounding the Green struck and damaged two of the decorative bollards along the perimeter of the Green, then continued toward Broad Street, patrol officer reports locating the tractor-trailer unit by the Green, insurance information taken to submit claim for damage to city property;
5:49 p.m.: motor vehicle accident with injury, Southampton Road, dual response, officer reports that a southbound vehicle stopped to make a left turn into the Dunkin Donuts shop when it was struck on the rear by a second southbound vehicle and pushed into the path of a northbound vehicle, five occupants of the stopped vehicle, a Springfield family, were transported by ambulance to the Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, that vehicle and the northbound vehicle were both towed from the scene, the operator of the second southbound vehicle was issued a citation;
7:14 p.m.: incapacitated person, Meadow Street, dual response, caller reports a young man is stumbling in the roadway, officer reports the subject was located and complained of chest and abdominal pain, officer requested an ambulance, subject transported to Noble Hospital.
