1:02 a.m.: East Mountain Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
7:49 a.m.: animal complaint, Franklin Street, a resident brought to the station a stray brown male pit bull dog wearing a studded collar, an animal control officer took custody of the dog and transported it to the Westfield Animal Shelter;
8:20 a.m.: breaking and entering, Southampton Road, a caller from a Southampton Road business reports workers arrived to find a window smashed and the cash register broken, the responding detective reports the safe was disturbed but not opened, coin was stolen from the cash register and a vending machine in an incident similar to a recent larceny at the same business;
11:55 a.m.: assist citizen, Washington Street, a couple came to the station to request assistance to keep the peace as they recover property from a Washington Street address, the responding officer reports the couple took possession of the property in question without incident and he mediated a dispute about ownership of a puppy;
2:45 p.m.: assist citizen, Rachael Terrace, a caller requests an officer to assist as her daughter collects personal property from her home, responding officer reports he helped keep the peace as the younger woman collected bags of her clothing which had been stored in a garage, the officer reports personal documents are still reportedly missing;
2:48 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Friendly’s Way, a traffic bureau officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the vehicle’s registration and the inspection sticker were both found to be expired, the vehicle was towed;
3:29 p.m.: ATV patrol, East Mountain Road, officers report an ATV patrol of wooded areas in the vicinity of East Mountain Road revealed no significant infractions;
5:20 p.m.: assault, Russell Road, a caller reports her former boyfriend assaulted her current boyfriend, the responding officer reports the that the suspect was at the caller’s residence to care for a child he has in common with her but refused to leave when asked, the woman’s new boyfriend attempted to encourage the man to leave and the suspect, who had been holding a razor knife when the confrontation began, allegedly choked the caller’s current boyfriend to the point where he was losing consciousness, Donald Sullivan, 27, of 700 Russell Road, was arrested for assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, attempted murder and assault and battery in a domestic relationship;
5:37 p.m.: suspicious fire, Southwick Road, a caller reports someone tried to burn her house, the responding firefighters reports a small mulch fire had been extinguished prior to their arrival, the firefighters cited careless disposal of cigarettes as the probable cause, the resident said a relative had been smoking on the porch earlier;
7:31 p.m.: vandalism, Forest Glen Apartments, Lockhouse Road, a caller reports his former girlfriend poured oil on his bed when she was moving out, the responding officer reports the caller said that he is breaking up with his girlfriend and he absented himself while she was packing up her possessions in the interest of peace and tranquility, the man said that when she left the woman told him she “left a present” for him and he found that olive oil had been poured all over his bed, the officer found that the bedding and a foam pad were saturated with oil but it did not extend to the mattress, the officer reports that the bed is community property, no charges were filed and the man was advised to consider changing his locks;
8:42 p.m.: suspicious vehicles, Airport Industrial Park Road, officers report that an investigation of two parked vehicles led them to an underage party in the woods with a fire, the gathering was dispersed and responding firefighters extinguished the fire;
10:30 p.m.: incapacitated person, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a female party on her knees leaning against a building, the officer found that the woman had left a bar and was en route to another but was obviously highly intoxicated, the woman was placed in protective custody;

12:09 a.m.: Union Avenue, a caller reports a couch in the rear of her house is burning, the responding firefighters report the couch was not inside and was extinguished;
1:48 a.m.: attempted burglary, Franklin Street, a caller reports seeing a described man break a liquor store window, the responding officer reports he found that the window had been broken and an attempt had apparently been made to remove a bottle of beer from a display, a search of the area did not reveal a suspect;
7:53 a.m.: suspicious item, Grandmothers Garden, Smith Avenue, a caller reports finding a partially full soda bottle and fears it may be a bottle bomb, the responding officer reports the bottle was not a bomb and was properly disposed of;
10:19 a.m.: larceny, Elm Street, a caller reports a flag was stolen from his store, the responding officer reports the caller said that a U.S. flag displayed at his business was stolen overnight, the caller does not require a formal report but wants his loss documented;
11:57 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Smith Avenue, a traffic bureau officer reports he encountered a parked vehicle with expired registration, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
12:20 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, West School Street, a traffic bureau officer reports he encountered a parked vehicle with expired and non-renewable registration, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
1:03 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Smith Avenue, a traffic bureau officer reports he encountered a parked vehicle with expired registration, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
1:53 p.m.: burning complaint, Union Street, a patrol officer reports a burning complaint, the responding firefighters report the resident was advised to extinguish his pile of burning leaves and complied;
4:25 p.m.: fire, Bates Road, a caller reports a burning house has been evacuated, see stories in the Monday and Wednesday editions of The Westfield News;
11:15 p.m.; motor vehicle violation, Union Avenue, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle make an unsafe stop and he followed it for a short distance before stopping it, the operator said that he had only a learner’s permit, there was no licensed driver in the vehicle, Ernest A. Baffour, 20, of 399 Cannon Circle, Springfield was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
