Major crime and incident report

1:31 p.m.: Accident, Mill Street and West Silver Street. Police responded to an accident between a 2008 Kia Optima and 2012 Nissan Altima. The accident occurred after one of the vehicles turned into the path of the other and they collided. One person from each vehicle were transported to the hospital with injuries by Westfield Fire paramedics, one to Baystate Noble Hospital and one to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
2:24 p.m.: Hit and run accident, Springfield Road. Police received a report from a bystander who said that they witnessed a vehicle hit a parked car, then took off. The bystander was able to get a plate number. According to police, the vehicle was tracked and the driver was spoken to, and they reported that they didn’t know they hit another vehicle. No charges were filed.
4:57 p.m.: Vandalism, Prospect Street Extension. Police received a report of a mailbox that was vandalized. Police reported that the damage appeared to have come from a baseball ball. There were no witnesses and no suspects at the time of the report.
11:22 p.m.: Accident and arrest, East Silver Street. Police reported that they saw Jacob K. Devine, 24, of Westfield, traveling in the opposing lane at at least 60 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Police proceeded to follow Devine’s vehicle and reported that he took a left at a red light and was pulled over a short time later. Once pulled over, police reported that he proceeded to back up into the police vehicle, claiming that he didn’t see the vehicle. Police suspected that he was operating under the influence and Devine failed all field sobriety tests. Devine was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, red light violation and speeding.
