1:44 a.m.: fireworks, Washington Street, a caller reports that she just heard fireworks go off right next to her building and that she saw three male parties walking away from the area right after, the responding officer reports that he stopped two males who matched the description given by the caller, the officer reports that used fireworks were found in the immediate area but the caller was not 100 percent confident in identifying the male parties as those responsible, the officer reports the fireworks were disposed of;

2:46 a.m: burglary, St. Paul Street, a caller reports that a male party known to him broke into his house and punched him in the face before fleeing on foot, the responding officer reports that Craig A. Riel, 34, of 9 Bush Street, Westfield was found at his home and placed under arrest for burglary, assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest;

12:37 p.m.: shoplifting, East Main Street, a caller from an East Main Street retailer reports that a male shoplifted several items from the store, the caller reports that he confronted the male party at the exit and was able to retrieve on bag of merchandise before the male party left on a bicycle, the responding officer filed an incident report;

2:29 p.m.: disturbance, Park Square, a caller reports that a passerby in a motor vehicle threw what appeared to be water at a peaceful political demonstration on the Park Square Green, the responding officer reports that nobody was injured and that the vehicle was unable to be identified.
