Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013
12:08 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Half Mile Falls Park, North Elm Street, the dispatcher reports persons are in the park after the closing time, the responding officer reports the trespassers were dispersed;
2:22 a.m.: suspicious person, North Elm Street, West Springfield police relayed a report from a North Elm Street business that a suspicious person was attempting to get into several vehicles, the responding officer reports he found a male party who eventually admitted that he had been trying to sleep in a vehicle because he had consumed a few shots of alcohol earlier and was forgetful of where he was, the officer reports he detected no signs of impairment and the man was given a courtesy transport to a Chapel Street address;
7:22 a.m.: found property, Franklin Street, a resident came to the station to surrender a Massachusetts identification card found in a Franklin Street parking lot, the owner could not be immediately located and the card was stored for safekeeping;
9:38 a.m.: breaking and entering, Johns Drive, a resident reports online that his vehicle was entered overnight Sept. 23 and a GPS device and credit card were stolen;
10:35 a.m.: larceny, Holyoke Road, a caller reports the cover of his boat was stolen overnight, the responding officer reports the complainant said that the custom made cover for his boat was removed from his boat while it was parked in his driveway, the man said that the cover had been seen to be in place about 12:30 a.m. but was gone in the morning;
10:53 a.m.: lost property, Franklin Street, a West Springfield Resident came to the station to report that she had dropped her purse out of a window of a vehicle she had been a passenger in and her daughter has seen a man pick it up, the officer found that the man had surrendered the purse at a nearby store, the owner said that the contents appeared to be intact;
12:04 p.m.: larceny, St. Dennis Street, a resident came to the station to report a larceny from his checking account, the responding officer reports that the man said that while balancing his checkbook he found two fraudulent transactions, the man said that his account number and his bank’s routing numbers had been inscribed on two checks totaling more than $700 and debited from his account, the account was closed;
12:12 p.m.: disturbance, Belmont Street, a caller reports her daughter and her former boyfriend are involved in a disturbance, the responding officer reports an altercation developed when the man came to the residence to pick up his son in accordance with an existing agreement, the officer advised that the parties address their issues in family court;
12:20 p.m.: animal complaint, Westfield State University, 577 Western Ave., WSU police report taking custody of a stray dog without tags, a responding animal control officer reports he took custody of the dog and transported it to the municipal animal shelter;
4:50 p.m.: assist citizen, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., police request assistance with keys locked inside a vehicle in the department parking lot, the responding firefighters report entry was made;
7:43 p.m.: found property, Washington Street, a person came to the station to surrender a payroll check found in the Police Department parking lot, the owner was tracked down and said he would pick up the check on Monday;

Monday, Sept. 30, 2013
2:39 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating on North Elm Street at high rate of speed, the officer reports radar determined that the vehicle was traveling at 54 mph and the vehicle was stopped, the operator’s license was found to have been suspended and a criminal complaint was filed;
11:49 a.m.: vandalism, East Mountain Road, a resident came to the station to report that his motorcycle was vandalized, the responding officer reports that the man said that he usually keeps his motorcycle in his garage but he left it outside overnight Sunday and discovered in the morning that it had suffered numerous deep scratches and the seat had been stabbed repeatedly, in addition a mirror had been damaged, the man said that he has ongoing issues with a neighbor but also said that he recently had an argument with a former girlfriend;
2:32 p.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a disturbance, the responding officer reports a victim said that he was approached by a known person with whom he has previously had problems and the man punched him before proceeding to strike him repeatedly with a two-by-four-inch length of lumber, a witness supported the victim’s account and said that the suspect fled but returned without the two-by-four, the officer had twice dealt with the man earlier and on one of those occasions had confiscated a length of two-by-four, the officer reports he recovered another piece of two-by-four, Angel D. “Loco” Hernandez, 48, of 96 Mechanic St., was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon;
5:08 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating without a valid inspection sticker and stopped the vehicle, the operator was found to be unlicensed and the subject of an outstanding warrant, Luis Alfardo-Perez, 39, of 59 Rittenhouse Terrace, Springfield, was arrested for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and on the warrant;
5:28 p.m.: disturbance, Bates Road, a caller reports a male party walking five pit bull dogs is involved in an altercation with a woman walking a small dog, the responding officer reports the director of animal control operations directed that an animal control officer respond to take custody of the dogs but a supervisory officer reports the dogs were taken inside the residence and thus out-of-reach, the officer reports that the dog owner said that the dogs were scheduled to be delivered to the animal control officer in Worthington, the man was advised that he may own no more than three dogs in the city and they must be vaccinated and licensed;
5:45 p.m.: harassment, Farnham Lane, a resident came to the station to complain that her former husband has been harassing her via text messages, a criminal complaint is pending;
8:21 p.m.: fire, Arbors Apartments, 40 Court Street, a caller from an assisted living facility reports a fire alarm sounded because a microwave oven started to burn, the caller said that the fire was extinguished but it created significant smoke and the alarm continues to sound, the responding officer reports the fire was contained and smoke was ventilated from the apartment;
8:50 p.m.: found property, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a officer reports that three rings were discovered to have been left in a cell after a female prisoner had been removed, the rings were stored for safe keeping.
