WESTFIELD

2:00 a.m.: chimney fire, East Mountain Road, a caller reports a possible chimney fire, the responding firefighters report the fire in the fireplace had been extinguished prior to their arrival and no fire was found in the chimney but creosote buildup at the top of the chimney was noted and the resident was advised to have the chimney cleaned before using it again;
5:35 a.m.: suspicious person, Main Street, a caller reports a person is sleeping in a bank’s ATM lobby, the responding officer reports the man found said that he had been unable to gain access to the Samaritan Inn and had sought shelter in the ATM, the man made contact with staff at the inn;
9:38 a.m.: animal complaint, Adams Street, a caller reports she has trapped a stray cat with an injured neck which has been in the area for the past couple of weeks, the responding animal control officer reports she took custody of the cat;
10:36 a.m.: larceny, Exchange Street, a caller reports an unauthorized withdrawal for her bank account, an incident report was filed;
11:41 a.m.: accident, Paper Mill Road at Mockingbird Lane, a caller reports a car struck a tree, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports one person was transported to Baystate Noble Hospital;
1:08 p.m.: breaking and entering, Holland Avenue, a caller reports her vehicle was entered and property was stolen, the responding officer reports the unlocked vehicle was entered overnight, an incident report was filed;
2:34 p.m.: larceny, East Silver Street, a caller from a supermarket reports a shoplifter fled with cases of an energy drink and the store manager followed him, the responding officer reports the manager said that he confronted the man and recovered the merchandise, the manager said that he did not choose to pursue criminal charges but wanted the man to be issued a ‘No trespassing’ order, the officer advised the manager to call police if the suspect returns to the store;
3:21 p.m.: disturbance, Margerie Street, a caller reports a disturbance, the responding officer reports the incident was verbal and one involved party left the area;
4:01 p.m.: animal complaint, East Mountain Road, an animal control officer reports she responded to a report of a “circling chipmunk” and transported the animal the Westfield Animal Shelter;
4:02 p.m.: lost property, Main Street, a resident came to the station to report that he lost his wallet, an incident report was filed;
4:09 p.m.: incapacitated person, Main Street at White Street, a patrol officer reports he encountered an incapacitated man and requests an ambulance, the man was transported to Baystate Noble Hospital;
4:31 p.m.: animal complaint, North Road, a passerby reports seeing a man shooting at birds on the roof of a residence, the responding animal control officer reports she was eventually able to speak with the resident who said that he had been carrying a BB gun which he uses to shoot at targets on his property, the man was advised to refrain from shooting at wildlife out-of-season;
4:49 p.m.: training, East Mountain Road, a detective reports he participated in a training exercise with State Police in which live ammunition was disposed of by detonation;
5:58 p.m.: soliciting, Elm Street, a caller from a downtown merchant complains of a man bothering customers by panhandling outside the store, the responding officer reports the complainant elected to serve the man with a ‘No trespassing’ order, the officer reports he was able to identify the man and serve the order later in the day.
