Police warn of fraudulent checks

WESTFIELD–Police warn of possible fraudulent checks after they report a person allegedly attempted to pass one at a local bank Friday.

According to Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe, police received a report of an alleged counterfeit check that a person had attempted to pass Friday afternoon. McCabe reported that the check, which was reportedly for $1,405.84, had a reported endorsement of “Interior Building Contractors.”

According to McCabe, this is a “known fraudulent check,” and that businesses and individuals should “be on the lookout for it.”

According to the Westfield Police log, the person who allegedly attempted to cash the check had left an ID behind, and the vehicle the suspect had reportedly entered had a license plate that came back with the status of “surrendered–voluntary surrender: plates destroyed.”

In addition, the log reports that the person reportedly entered a white vehicle, though the license plate given was reportedly listed as being for a light gray Toyota Corolla.
