Post 124 hits busy stretch

WESTFIELD – Westfield Post 124, fresh off a 1-1 weekend split, hits the diamond hard this week with three games in four days, beginning this evening against Northampton at Jachym Field at 5:45 p.m.

Westfield’s American Legion baseball team struggled to hit in its opener, losing to Easthampton 3-2 Saturday. But Post 124 rebounded with a big victory a day later.

On Sunday, Westfield starting pitcher Nate Barnes (8 Ks) pitched a three-hitter in a 4-0 shutout of Amherst at Jachym Field. Adam Mayhew (2 RBIs) and Ethan Atkocaitis (RBI) had two hits apiece for Post 124, and Billy Smith knocked in an RBI with a hit.

After facing Northampton tonight, Westfield will have a day off before hosting West Springfield Thursday and Aldenville Teddy Bear Pools Friday. Both games will be played at Jachym Field with first pitch scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

Post 124 hits the road Sunday when they travel to Whitney Park in Ludlow for a 1:30 game.
