SOUTHWICK – The Planning Board is continuing a public hearing for a marijuana zoning bylaw on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the land use room of the Southwick Town Hall.
The proposed bylaw is to allow off-site marijuana dispensaries as well as medical and recreational marijuana facilities in Southwick. A public hearing took place at the last Planning Board meeting on March 20, but the board decided to continue the hearing after there was minimal attendance from the community.
The Planning Board wants to give residents one last opportunity to add their input on the bylaw since the board has to close the hearing on Tuesday and have the warrant article drafted by March 30. The warrant article needs to be reviewed and ready to go for the annual town meeting on May 16.
Marcus Phelps, the Vice-Chairman of the Planning Board, described the importance of closing the hearing and drafting the bylaw.
“This will give us some additional local control as to the place and manner in which both recreational and medical marijuana could be either produced or sold in town,” said Phelps.
