Could you, the editor, tell us, the readers, who Senator Knapik replaced in his new position at Westfield State College or was this a newly created position under the spendthrift president? Thank you very much. Newly created but replaces the Director of Devlopment

Senator Knapik is a very smart man. He wants to go with Mr. Dobelle there at Westfield State and get some of the money with him. Politicians aren’t stupid.

This is a little message for the Westfield City Cab. I just wanted to let you guys know that if you’re finding that your business is slowing down and you’re not getting your daily customers that you usually had calling for your taxi company, it’s because of the man you fired. Apparently, he has given every single one of my friends his cell phone number his fares are much cheaper. So, I don’t know. I think this is fraud. I don’t think he has a license and if anybody get injured in his care I feel bad for them because he isn’t a taxi company and he does not have the liability insurance that other people have.

I suggest everyone access the following blog for the real deal on the departure of Evan Dobelle from the University of Hawaii in 2004. The blog is “faroutliers.blogspot.comm/2004/06firing-of-evan-dobelle.html.
Tells the story of Mr Dobelle, now under investigation by the Commonwealth for allegations of malfeasance at Westfield State. Why Mr Dobelle was ever hired after his dismissal in Hawaii is puzzling until one realizes Dobelle has the proper qualifactions to be a College President in Massachusetts. HE”S A DEMOCRAT HACK!! Billy Bulger, David Bartley, Marty Meehan and Evan Dobelle, all Democrat clowns that were handed jobs that none were qualified for. Keep voting for the Dems suckers!!!!!

I believe he is well intentioned but I think Carl Hartdegen is a [verb] [noun]. Or it may be [adjective] [noun]. Oh what the heck. A numb skull. Alright , there I said it!!

Dear Pulseline, This is a comment in response to the caller who posted saying “many of us local folks believe Evan Dobelle is the best Westfield State President we’ve seen in recent years,” and who slandered the ‘local college teachers’ as PhD’s who make around 115K, work only 7 months of the year and only 15 hours a week. I would agree with the first part of your statement, but would just like to respectfully point out that you are severely, sadly wrong in your facts in the second part of our statement, very, very wrong (and if you know where we can get jobs that pay like that, let me at it). My spouse leaves to go to work teaching at WSU at 8:00am and doesn’t get back until nearly 6pm, five days a week. My spouse works half days on Saturdays and all day on Sundays, and most nights after the kids are in bed, as well as going out for work meetings beyond these hours. The only night there is a break is Fridays. I have to work also, at an unprofessional wage, in a working class job, in order to keep our very average house in a very average part of Westfield and support our family of six. We can not afford cable or eating out or new technology or new furniture or vacations. We drive twelve year old cars. (And we are very grateful to have them running!) We do not earn anywhere near 115K, despite having terminal degrees and the student loan burden that goes along with them. You seem to forget that we are local folks too, born and bred in New England, we’ve lived in Westfield more than half our lives, we shop at Price Rite and Walmart, just like you, and we pay our taxes the best we can. We ARE WORKING FOLKS and our children will be damn lucky if they can be accepted to and afford WSU, so please think before you paint us all with a broad brushstroke. You do a severe disservice to all the hardworking local folks who hold WSU together, doing the jobs you can’t see that keeps it running. And yes, we hope Evan Dobelle keeps on as the best president the place has had in years. Thank you.

Residents of Westfield, beware that a guy is calling around trying to solicit home security systems. He calls himself “John”. When you ask about who he is, he hangs up. So, to me, it’s a person trying to scam people, because there’s no phone number that comes up on caller ID.

I was rather stunned at the comment of August 5, 2013 referring to the “big eyesore on Meadow Street”, as the “Westfield Hotel”, and “homeless people hanging out front”; and the final conclusion that “the place should be torn down”. As I understand the facts, the building years ago was the Westfield Hotel, and fell into total disrepair, and did constitute an eyesore at that time. The building was purchased at, or near foreclosure and converted into low cost housing. I remember when the building re-opened, with a ribbon cutting attended by local and state officials and agencies, that many millions had been spent to rescue the eyesore, and that Westfield was given credit for saving a good building, saving the neighborhood, and while at the same time providing much needed residences for people of limited means(so they would not be homeless and living on the street or under the bridges at the river) .As I understand it, all the residents pay rent, or they are not permitted to reside there. On the premises, I believe there is a community pantry and meal service where volunteers from the city serve many meals to those in need. As I understand your letter of complaint, you were driving on Meadow Street and did not like the looks or appearance of those people and lawful tenants gathered outside in front of where they live? Is this your only objection? If they were wearing coats and ties, clean shaven and no tattoos, would this change your opinion? Based upon your reasoning, the truly homeless people at the shelter on Free Street should also have that building torn down. Then, all the homeless people and their unconventional appearances would have no place to go, except back to the river and under the bridges. I don’t think that the society exists that you wish to see, except only in your mind. My advice? Avoid Meadow Street, and any other parts of the city that offend you.
