Pulseline

PulseLine, August 15, 2013

Hi. I’m reading the PulseLine for Tuesday, August 6 and the guy talking about the transfer station and the things that need to be done. We’re dealing with people that have taken three years to figure out how to sell the stickers to go in there at the facility. Obviously, people can’t be trusted or they don’t know how to… don’t know what that issue is. Why you have to travel around Westfield to get the sticker. If that’s such a hard thing to do, how are you going to deal with these other issues? And I hope these new vehicles are being watched and the drivers are not beating the crap out of them. They don’t circle potholes. They punch it to the next driveway, slam on the brakes, punch it to the next driveway, slam on the brakes. Have some control over this kind of stuff. I know they have to hurry up and do their job but the vehicles will last longer and it saves us money. Lots of things to think about. But when will be be able to buy a sticker at the gate? Seems kind of funny we gotta go to the Big Y. Thanks for listening.

Well, my car is in the shop right now with a busted tie rod. And guess where it happened? Right on route 187 over there where there’s those big dips and everything in the road. Who do I send the bill to? I was wondering. Do I send it to the city of Westfield or do I send it to the contractor? That is the worst road contractor I’ve ever seen in my life. The way they leave roads in the condition after they’re done putting in the pipes is pathetic. Somebody should look into that. Maybe we need a better contractor or better oversight, making sure they leave the roads the way they found them. Thank you.

Good morning! I’m in the vicinity of Lockhouse Road in Westfield off Southampton Road and I see the police have this road closed because of a water problem. We realize that maybe a month and half ago, six weeks ago, the contractor broke a pipe. Now, it seems we’re pushing almost two months because this contractor made a mistake and hit a pipe. In turn, who is paying for this additional police work and working in the system? I don’t know if there is work being done presently but can somebody answer, and this must be costing megabucks, and I believe it started with the water department and possibly the sewer department. Can I get an answer on this and just what direction and how much costs on this one? Thank you very much.

Good evening PulseLine. Just a comment to whatever city officials, or the Health Department, or whoever it is that would have the final authority on what size dumpster we get for our trash when we get the recyclable dumpster.  It certainly would be wonderful if we could keep our big trash dumpsters or, at least, send something to the households to give us the choice. I have been a faithful recycler since day one. My recycle bins are always full. But my dumpster is usually full, as well, and I certainly would appreciate having the big dumpster. Please give it consideration. Thank you.

I was wondering why don’t the park benches in the green, the town green, have any back on them. Go all through downtown Westfield, all the benches there have nice backs on them so you can just sit there, put your back against them and relax. Those other ones, you got to sit up straight like you’re in damn Catholic school. So, I was just wondering why. Why so many with no backs on them and why so many lights, man? I wonder what that must have cost us a fortune to buy the lights, a fortune just to light them up where nobody enjoys them at night. What a shame! All that tax dollars wasted! I wish we have better planning in this state.

Congratulations to whomever is responsible for the beautiful flowers located throughout the city of Westfield. They are gorgeous. What a lovely summer treat! However, there is a concern relative to Park Square. Does there really have to be a curfew on our new park? It bothers me that children are asked to leave. I know the park is no place for skateboards but the children should feel welcome, too. And the gentleman who refused to leave unless asked with a “please” had a wonderful sense of humor which unfortunately was misinterpreted. Let him sit and enjoy. I understand the purpose of the curfew but couldn’t a cruiser making an extra trip or two around the park control the possible vandalism? Thank you. Have a good day. Every city park in Westfield has a time when it is closed to the public.

Hi! Yeah, I’m reading the paper and it’s got the list of all the little league sponsors and I would like to thank each and every one of them but I’m curious and have a problem because I’m the age of 46-years-old. And I remember in my day there used to be all the convenience stores and all that. There was a lot of sponsorships and I don’t see any of them and I’m wondering why none of them put anything into their community anymore. I’d like some of them reach out and start sponsoring teams like they did. That’s all. Thank you.

So, United Bank, I was wondering, is advertised as being your neighborhood bank, but obviously it’s when it’s only convenient for them as you cannot park in their parking lot to go to a local establishment just to grab lunch to go. They won’t even allow you to park in their parking lot for five minutes, three minutes. Seems a little ridiculous. Sounds like its only neighborhood banking when it’s convenient for them and not for anybody else. And seriously, this morning, Wednesday, August 16, I just saw two police officers moving one sign on a side street that must have been too close to the roadway for their liking. I don’t know if this is just an abuse of extra money or does it seriously require two officers to go around and do this detail. Couldn’t we find something better for them to do? Sincerely, a concerned citizen Read Hope Tremblay’s story about the parking dispute between United Bank and The Good Table here: https://thewestfieldnews.com/?p=45979.
