What has happened to the online print edition of the Westfield News? July 17th is the last available. I miss it. We have been having issues with the service we use to create the flip pages of the paper and we’re trying to either find a new service or correct the issues with the current one. Thank you for reading the online version!

Hi! I happened to be in the area and I stopped in a store on Southampton Road today. I made my purchase and I gave the young gentleman the money and so on and so forth. And after he did the work on the cash register all he did was give me back my change in crumpled-up bills. I think he might have said thank you. He just dropped it on the counter and that was that. Whatever happened to counting back the change to the customer in neat, straight bills without the corners folded up and everything crinkled? How would he have felt if I had just taken a crumpled bunch of money out of my pocket, all crinkled up, to pay for my purchase? That’s about the same thing, isn’t it? So I think the owner up there, I think his name is Mike, should clean up his act a little bit. Thank you.

Hi! I live in Hampden Village. I’m a senior citizen and I don’t want my name in the paper, of course. I’m a little bit upset that the mayor says that he wants a fish and chips at the Barnes where Runway Restaurant closed. I wish somebody would suggest to him that at this time The Red Lobster would be the most appropriate thing. So, fish and chip is fatty and everything , whatever. So that he would consider contacting The Red Lobster restaurant because I read in the paper that they were going to open 15 more restaurants. And if that doesn’t work, what about Olive Garden restaurant? That would be fantastic! OK? Thank you.

An even numbered home on Day Avenue had its outside sprinklers on today, a Thursday, obviously not their day for water use. Apparently rules are made for the very few and the rest do as they please.

We all know about the increase in the gas tax. The politicians voted to increase the tax by 3 cents a gallon. Because of the politicians’ vote this will be the first time ever that we have had a tax bill that will increase automatically without any vote. So the 3 cents could become higher in the future without us ever hearing about it. Since this bill is an irreversible automatic increasing tax, thanks you rotten politicians.

Here we go again! Another President of the University who will put the institution and the City on the front pages. This time it isn’t molestation or embezzlement it’s waste and abuse of public, student, and donor monies as well as fraudulent use of credit cards. Why does a leader of a public institution in a state where support of education continues to decrease and students need to go into debt to pay the bills think it is OK to spend in excess of a million dollars on trip after trip in the US and internationally, on expensive meals at the Blantyre and Wheatleigh Inns, $10,000 a pop at Tanglewood on numerous occasions throughout the summer, 5 star hotels, private car transportation, perk after perk, and this just scratches the surface of the waste, abuse, and fraud that has been going on since 2008. The behavior is widely known on campus, in town, and across the state. The Board of Trustees that is responsible for the stewardship of the institution have a detailed report by an audit firm of the President’s questionable spending on both University and Foundation funds. Why did they allow this behavior to occur and continue? More importantly, why have they decided to take little or no action? Why did individuals on his staff repeatedly, since 2008, cover for him and alter his reimbursement forms and attendance sheets? Why are they currently covering the report by his staff and the Board of Trustees? Several of the Trustees are lawyers or in law inforcement or in the MA judicial system; what are they thinking? Why did the chair of the Foundation resign after six months in the position? what type of influence or connection does Evan Dobelle have that he continues to get away with this behavior– Hawaii and now Westfield? Just how deep does this cover go?
