It’s only August and I have already received seven 2014 calendars from various charities. I will be inundated with many, many more before the end of the year. I’m sure others will receive the same number or more. I hate to recycle these, they are nice calendars, but how many calendars can one house really use? Any ideas on a positive, helpful use for them? Senior center? Soldiers Home? Ship them to soldiers in Afghanistan? If anyone has a positive use for many calendars, please suggest them in the PulseLine. Thanks.

I have a question for Mr. Levakis in Blandford. Have you ever fought a fire? Have you ever driven a fire truck or tried to save someone’s life? If you have not done this then how do you presume to be an authority that can hire or fire a “volunteer”. I agree that the Chief position should be interviewed so that all could agree he/she is capable and sincere enough to gather together the proper people to form a team. After the chief is in place, it is not your place to decide who is part of that team. They train together and work together to keep your town safe. In other words, keep your nose out of business you have no knowledge about. Volunteerism in our society has gone by the wayside. Be thankful and grateful that some still hold that valuable in the small community of yours!
