Yes, does anybody ever drive down Meadow Street and see the big eyesore on Meadow Street? The Westfield Hotel? What an eyesore! You know? What an eyesore! You got homeless people hanging out front. You know? What an eyesore! That place should be torn down.

Yes, I was reading in The Westfield News about Dr. Dobelle, the president of the Westfield University and about the spending and all that goes on. Doesn’t it kind of ring a bell with the White House doing about the same thing? Sure, they need to get after this president here, Westfield. Because their friends are getting their hands in the pockets, too. Meanwhile, the kids that go to school, they’re increasing the debt for the kids, who really can’t afford a good education, but Westfield State University is a good college. But this spending and this nonsense has got to stop. I’m glad they’re going to be investigating him. Thank you.

I can remember not too many years ago when gas was 39 cents a gallon and the oil companies didn’t need to have to make 30 or 40 billion dollars a year profits. Why can’t we go back to those days? If everybody in America and the world would just stop driving for one or two days we would bring the oil companies and everybody down to their knees. Thank you very much.

Yes, I just want to give a good compliment to all the staff workers at Noble Hospital here in Westfield. Tomorrow will be my fourth day being here. I’ve been undergoing tests. They’ve been excellent. The food is great and I just can’t say enough good about the people at Noble. So, I really appreciate it and they all deserve a big pat on the back for their work. They just bend over backwards to help you and that’s a great feeling. Thank you.

OK, Dan and Don. Be sure to announce the tax-free holiday in Walmart but don’t allow any poor buses from Mary McGuinness to come in because there’s no place to park and there’s no bus stop for passengers. This is really a disgrace what’s going on at the Walmart. Really. And you’re doing nothing about it, city officials. Let’s encourage the harvest festival in September – not the Walmart tax-free abomination that it is.

Hi PulseLine, In August 3,2013 two of the front-page news stories dealt with gun crimes in The Westfield News. Why shouldn’t the criminals that use guns to rob and kill spend extra time in jail??? Chief Scott of Holyoke mentioned time after time that liberal judges were putting dangerous felons back on the street instead of putting them in jail! The drug wars in Springfield are claiming lives each week and Mayor Sarno is asking for more State Police to arrest these dangerous criminals! IF OUR LIBERAL JUDGES PUT CRIMINALS IN PRISON BECAUSE THEY USED GUNS WE WOULD BE SAFER! Why should the law abiding gun owners who hunt be taxed and the gun-using felon go free to rob and kill with impunity?

Many of us local folks believe Evan Dobelle is the best Westfield State President we’ve seen in many years. He has transformed the campus and the college in his six-year tenure. Additionally he has made the campus facilities available to the local townsfolk as well as many regional organizations. Plus he has made serious efforts to integrate the college and the students in the Westfield city center. We think we are fortunate to have someone of his caliber lead one of the most important institutions in our town. How quickly we seem to have forgotten the parade of unfortunate past presidents. If the media is to be believed, this is the local college teachers union on the hunt. These are folks (mostly PH D’s if the college brochure is accurate) who make around $115,000 @ year (Internet survey of western Mass. Public college salaries), who work 8 1/2 months a year (but really only 7 after you subtract thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring break & Easter holidays), yet are only required to teach 15 hours a week. It’s little wonder working-folks’ children are becoming locked out of a college education due to ever increasing cost.

Hi! This is to Shoehorn O’Plenty. The dog you mentioned that was dehydrated has nothing whatsoever with or animals being poisoned. First of all, there are no dogs running loose in this park. Never was. Most cats are indoor cats. Some are outdoor cats and they don’t bother anyone. They don’t destroy anything and they bury their business. One of the four cats I mentioned was tied in her own yard and she was poisoned. A dog was in his own fenced-in yard and someone fed him contaminated meat. If you claim to be “our friendly-neighborhood watchman” then you should know who is poisoning our animals along with everyone’s business or are you just a noisy troublemaking busybody. Anyhow, we don’t need a self-appointed watchman. Thank you. Have a good day.

I am writing in response “Shoehorn O’Plenty” who wrote about animals suffering at Henry’s Mobile Home Park (sic) in Pulseline on July 30. As property manager of Heritage Park (it has not been called ‘Henry’s’ for years,) I am both sympathetic to and offended by the writer’s attitude. All of us in management have pets and I’ve owned dogs in the past. It breaks my heart when I see animals mistreated. We do have rules about animals being left unattended, leashes, etc. but we draw the line where the law picks up: abuse and inhumane treatment. That is the city/state’s jurisdiction. However, to call us “lazy landlords” is a fallacy. Every rule violation reported by residents or noted by management is documented and pursed for compliance to the full extent the law allows. We currently have a number of ongoing active legal cases involving rules violations when residents refuse to comply with warnings. The fact of the matter is that Mr./Ms. ‘O’Plenty’ is just as culpable as the negligent owners for not reporting any violations to either park management, police, animal control, or all of the above. If he/she had, we would have logged it and followed up with the appropriate action. I encourage ALL of our residents to report any rules violation to us. We never disclose the complainant’s identity when we pursue compliance. Most of our residents are fine, upstanding, responsible members of the community. I’ve had the opportunity to speak or meet with many of them. Unfortunately there will always be people, like the negligent dog owner, who spoil it for the majority. Our goal is clean, safe, and quiet. We’ve come a long way in the past few years, and we have a way to go. With our residents’ cooperation and help, we can and will get there. Sincerely, James Cook Property Manager Heritage Park
