Not sure if this has been addressed but why is there a hazardous waste drop off place on Main St. 30 feet from our Westfield River in a known flood zone? This is pure insanity. Wait until something happens and where the fingers are going to be pointing. Unbelievable. This facility was given approval by Mass DEP in July for this site. It is important to note that the Commonwealth approved this location as a HOUSEHOLD hazardous waste collection (not storage) facility with limitations on quantity. Household materials include: motor oil, antifreeze, paints/solvents, household cleaning chemicals, batteries, electronics, mercury devices, pesticides, fertilizer, etc. The facility gives residents a consistent resource to dispose of these unwanted items safely and responsibly at the same time diverting them from our waste stream.
