Don’t get me wrong, I think children of all abilities should be able to enjoy themselves at a playground. But for our tax dollars to go towards paying nearly $1 MILLION dollars for a handicapped playground I think is insane! In reviewing the articles on this, it seems one mom’s fight for her kids is making officials of this town too soft and allowing the spending of almost a million dollars on a playground. No elected person has the nerve to stand up and say that we won’t spend $1 million dollars on a playground because they’ll be seen as callous and uncaring. BS! Where are our “fiscally conservative” councilors now? And exactly how many kids will use this playground? Very few. It will be taken over by kids without disabilities. How about rehabbing one of the many parks we currently have by adding a few pieces of playground equipment instead of spending almost $1 million dollars on a new playground? The “every kid gets a trophy” society has lead to our fear of hurting someone’s feelings and now the wasteful spending of tax dollars. Let’s put this in perspective, anywhere from 20-50 people PER WEEKEND and 15-20 people several days per week play pickleball. In a cost-benefit analysis, spending $20,000-40,000 for +/-80 pickleball players each week would be a better city investment than $922,000 on an entirely new playground for a handful of handicapped kids. Yup, snowflakes, I said it!

Great job by the Westfield Historical commission on the ghost tours this past weekend! I loved the way they changed it up this year to focus on the city’s founding families to tie it in with our 350th celebration. So cool! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the volunteers! My family and I absolutely loved it. Great entertainment for the dollar!
