We all know it is pothole season. I’d like to know where the hot patch machine is that Westfield purchased a few years ago. I know it has not been used. Where is it? Asphalt is needed to use the hot-box. Westfield has a contract with Lane Construction to purchase asphalt but Lane is now closed for the winter. Palmer Paving opens earlier, the second or third week in March, but because of purchasing laws, Westfield can only buy $5,000 worth of asphalt from them and that doesn’t go very far.

These comments are directed to the family in Southwick that seems to think my taxes should be used to entertain their kids: Wrong!! That’s your job not mine. Being a 40-year Southwick resident, I’ve been there and done that as the saying goes. It appears your family flunked Real Estate 101 by not thoroughly checking what your potential community has to offer. People are told to practice lake safety which I might add does not include wanting to just drop the kids off. Your kids are your responsibility – maybe its time to step up to the plate. Look in a mirror. Those are the lazy people. Make your own rink in you own yard starting next fall. It can be simple – just flood a low spot or a more involved project with a frame and plastic liner. As you add water, you can revel in your kids excited anticipation of the ice finally being ready. As you said in your closing sentance, it only takes a couple days and water and all YOU have to do is plow it off.

Wow! Holyoke has reached an agreement with MGM as a surrounding city for the casino which gives Holyoke a $1,325,000 deal payable over 15 years. That is, if MGM is given the license in Springfield. Not bad. Why did Westfield not try to negotiate a surrounding city deal? Answers please. After careful consideration, the City of Westfield has decided against submitting an application to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for designation as a “surrounding community” for the MGM Springfield casino development. Upon consultation with legal counsel, we have determined the investment required to produce substantial evidence of impact for a formal hearing before the MGC would be too costly as compared to any reasonable estimate of reward should we have been afforded “surrounding community” status.
