Parents and citizens of Westfield we need to wake up! There are 42 positions in the school system being lost. Do we realize the impact that will have on our children? From 3113the sounds of it ,the losses will be classroom teachers and paraprofessionals that impact our children daily with learning. Having even bigger sized classrooms is not the makings of good education. Children need help and attention that is done with smaller classes . These teachers are already pushed to the limit. We can not keep doing this. I urge you to go to the school committee meeting , Monday, June 15,2015. Tell the school committee teachers matter, good quality education matters. Ask the superintendent exactly what positions are being cut.

This is to the DPW: Why aren’t you repainting the new designs in the road on Court St that are now faded? People are almost having accidents every day, because the lines are faded. By the Berkshire Bank and Washington St, that inside line is supposed to be righthand turn only, but people are still going through the light and almost causing accidents. On top of that, by the rotary, going towards Rocky’s, there’s one lane for turning right, but people are trying to make two lanes out of it. Please fix the roads. The Westfield DPW has informed us that they are in the process of evaluating several locations that need to be relined or have the traffic pattern changed. They will finalize those evaluations shortly and procure the services of a vendor once the new fiscal year starts on July 1. Work is anticipated to start in the next few weeks.
I have lived in Westfield since 1960. I was told at that time that it would not be long before Joseph Ave will be getting sewers. Here it is 55 years later and no one knows when it will happen. I am told by other city administrators that our city engineer Mr Cressotti should have that information, no matter how far in the future it is. What do you say Mr City Engineer. What’s the scoop?? The Westfield News spoke with the City Engineering Dept and learned that Joseph Ave from Papermill Rd south and including Grandview Dr as well as Christopher Dr and a portion of Papermill from Mocking Bird lane to the Papermill Rd School are currently under design for sanitary sewer improvements. Submission to Conservation Commission due to environmental impacts is anticipated late summer. Funding is currently insufficient however, the City Council is taking up a request for fee increases which will enable this project and others to proceed. More information will be forthcoming as the design advances including public hearing at Conservation Commission as well as at least one public informational meeting to be announced.
