Recently a PulseLine reader inquired as what will be done with Moseley School as it’s future seems to be in limbo. Senator Knapik states that it is a very large, big building and I agree, as my daughter once attended Moseley. It would seem to me that the most sensible, caring and intelligent use of the Moseley building would be to convert of prepare this building as an emergency shelter for Westfield in the event of a unfortunate occurrence such as a hurricane, tornado, or any of nature’s catastrophes in our community. One only has to watch the news or read the paper to familiarize themselves with the many disaster events that have or are taking place throughout various and in many other cities and towns. While it is helpful opening a school here and there for residents to seek shelter at a time of need it would be a very astute act of the mayor and city council to implement a specific location which all people are aware of in the event of a disaster. I understand certain modifications to this building would result in a cost to the city but it would be worth it for a rescue crew, a police officer or a misplaced resident to know there is a location where there is some sort of security in a time of need. In a time where we are all unsure of nature and its devastating effects on us, more so than we have ever been, this is not a luxury, this is common sense, where any mayor could claim that he or she will pick you up if you have fallen or are too afraid to go ahead because you have no place to go. The most important part of a city is the comfort safety and life of its citizens. Thank you.
Note to editor: I did email the Mayor twice and was simply told “It was not in the budget.” So there’s your answer.
