Is it true that the City of Westfield is going to build a playground on Church Street in the small parking lot in front of where the Bistro Restaurant was located??? That area seems to be small and not an ideal location for a playground. We asked the Engineering office for the City of Westfield and got the following response: the park being constructed under the Gas Light District project is not a playground. More of a passive pocket park featuring numerous historic artifacts such as the Thayer Fountain and will be complimented in a linear diagonal with other street features to “hopefully” form a significant district element.

The DPW has informed us that the retractable arm that the trash and recycling trucks are equipped with needs a few feet of space between the two barrels to properly lift and empty the barrels. When the barrels are too close the arms can’t get between which means neither barrel can be emptied.
