I just want to thank Mr. Carter for doing his job, its about time someone took action. I am tired of seeing girls dressed in booty shorts and tops that let everything hang out. Oh and lets not forget the pajama bottoms they wear, are we so lazy that we can’t get dressed in the morning. The girls at Hooters from what I am told wear more clothes than some of these girls at school. Now if you could just get the middle schools to also enforce the dress code, they dress just as bad. So hang in there Mr. Carter and don’t give in to the whining parents, you gave them plenty of warning at the orientation, keep up the good work a lot of parents are on your side. While your at it could you address the problem with the boys wearing the pants past the butt. Its definitely not attractive at all. And yes my child is a student at the High School. A thankful parent
The person who wrote the first caption that was entry on 9/6/13 was very well spoken. Along with what he/she said, yes, a dress code needs to be enforced. But the implementation was all wrong. A notice should have gone home first with the school’s expectations. The district policy caption is very vague. The kids should have been treated more respectfully and not treated like criminals. My children don’t want to go to school now because of that debacle, and have a very low view of John Carter. I have always taught my children to respect their teachers and do what they are told. But to receive respect, you have to earn it.
I applaud and support the enforcement of the dress code for Westfield High School students. To quote a statement on this issue in a recent editorial “The way you present yourself to the world affects how you will be treated.” It is about time students of today learn this lesson. There is appropriate dress for employment, church, social occasions and school. Students are there for an education, not to outdo someone in the fashion industry. You can spend your leisure time for this. Students, you have one job to do, learn all that you can and be the best that you can be for yourself, your parents and your community. The letter in yesterdays paper sounded like it came from someone whose child was inappropriately dressed.
Yeah, PulseLine, I was just wondering whose lamebrain it was about this changing the way the Turnpike is. I can see the fees if you drive up to the thing and pay it. But say a guy drives from Westfield to Chicopee and it costs him 25 cents and he doesn’t have a checking account and that’s the only trip he makes there for say two months. So, he’s got to go down with say the mom and pop store because he don’t have a checking account. He pays 99 cents for a money order plus 46 cents for a stamp to pay a 25 cent toll. That don’t make any sense, does it? This state is really going nuts. Have a good day.
Southwick: the new dog pound behind the police station looks great. You’re doing a good job. Now, if you can get the dog catcher to do her job, like patrolling the schools’ campuses – too many dogs running around there. Too many people walking their dogs over there let them do their business and then taking them back home, so that children can step in it. Disgusting, isn’t it? Let’s see if you can get her to do her job.
