Old Dominion withdrew their application for YET ANOTHER truck terminal at the North end. Not to say that is the end of it. However, the at-large city councilor and city council president John J. Beltrandi, III, and I quote him, that while he feels bad for the people on the North side “I’m a bit disappointed as a business man, due to the loss of $150,000 to $200000 in tax revenue.” And he wraps up his comments with “you can’t have it both ways.” Thus putting money over the quality of lives of those people who live at the North end, and who are already inundated with trucks. And folks this comment of Beltrandi’s coming on the heels of we at the North end being promised “No More Trucks.” Yes, We Were PROMISED. No More Trucks dumped on us folks at the North end. This is a case of let’s put it in their back yards again…but oh no, not in my back yard. Then what good are the promises these politicians make. My taxes will also go up however people are entitled to live at the North end with some peace of mind, and some sense of safety. They already have to filter their water, dodge trucks on a daily basis, inhale those horrendous fumes, put up with the noise, and yet you want to put another truck terminal up here. Didn’t Yellow Freight move out? Why not use that space instead of destroying more of the few wooded areas left.
